Eighteen En-suite Guest Rooms
El Fenn, is a unique boutique hotel combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces and gardens - making it the most peaceful place from which to enjoy Africa's most exotic city.
Formerly called Riad El Fenn, El Fenn began life as a large riad town house situated close to the Bab el Ksour in the street of the palaces and only five minute’s walk from the main square, Jemma el Fna. The hotel has three courtyards filled with trees and tumbling bougainvillea which hum to the sound of birds. There's also a huge roof terrace overlooking the Koutoubia mosque and snow-capped Atlas mountains.
There are twenty individually styled rooms and suites at El Fenn (10 with fire places and 2 with private terraces and plunge pools), and a four-bedroom private riad, all different but each with bedroom, small sitting room and bath/shower en suite. 'The douiria', is huge, with its own grand salon, en suite master bedroom, open fire, room for extra beds and a private roof terrace with small plunge pool enjoying a wonderful view. There are 3 swimming pools, a hammam and spa. The house has ancient walls over a metre thick, which shut out the sound of the bustling medina, and you enter a building of beauty and peace.
Vanessa Branson and Howell James have designed a house of which they could be truly proud, so the showers have power, the baths are deep, the heating/air-conditioning is effective and discreet, the mattresses firm, the pillows plentiful, the linen fine, the beds huge, the bath oils delicious, the candles scented.
The food policy at El Fenn is to keep it simple, made from fresh local products, with many vegetables being produced locally at an organic vegetable garden on a farm, in the foot hills of the Atlas Mountains. Snacks, lunch and dinner are readily on hand throughout the day.
El Fenn has an abundance of private areas around the riad for reading, eating, drinking, sunbathing, or snoozing. The lush gardens of the terrace and courtyards attract a mass of songbirds and also offer plentiful privacy. The magnificent terrace is the place to pass the day. huge and comfortable with a vast shaded soft seated area high above the city, a rose garden, daybeds, corners to make your own and a good sized plunge pool. It has the best views in town, a panorama of the atlas, Marrakech's beautiful mosque the Koutoubia, at dusk the city lights up and glows around you - you even see the steam rising from the food stalls in the square - then the moon rises. Eating at El Fenn
Our approach to food is to keep it simple, fresh and made from local produce only. We cook the produce of our organic garden in the foothills of the Atlas mountains and the daily markets are brimming with herbs, spices, vegetables and fruits of exceptional quality.
Our charming Moroccan staff will prepare you a breakfast of freshly squeezed orange juice, strong coffee and the freshest croissants this side of Bordeaux. Breakfast can be eaten on the terrace, in your room or in a quiet corner of your choice anywhere in the riad.
We offer a simple lunch with salads and vegetables, a light fish or chicken dish, cheese and dessert.
Dinner is a much more elaborate affair as we source only the best the market has available that day. Your choice is limited but includes vegetarian options and guarantees excellent quality. This can be eaten on the roof terrace under the stars or in our beautiful dining room, preceded by cocktails and aperitifs at the bar.
Meals could not be more civilized with a carefully chosen selection of Moroccan and French wines.
