Set in the exclusive antique and jewellery area of Marrakech, Dar El Bacha, Palais Khum is a luxury boutique hotel offering a tranquil space of luxurious relaxation.

The elegant Palais Khum that stands today is the product of a careful renovation of a traditional Foundouk, "Fendek Tzugarine". A Foundouk – also known as a Funduq or Caravanersi – was a medieval building designed as an urban hostel for commercial travellers and merchants. A typical Foundouk featured stables, lockable chambers for merchants’ goods and sleeping quarters, all set around a generous courtyard.

Today, Palais Khum stands as a luxurious manifestation of it’s former self. Fully renovated in the Moroccan tradition, the hotel consists of 11 individually themed rooms and suites; a large, heated indoor swimming pool; beautiful gardens; a relaxation library lounge; an art gallery; a solarium; several terraces and two hammams and massage rooms. solarium, terrace, 2 Hammam, two massage rooms.

The hotel also features a variety of restaurant spaces including a lounge bar, a restaurant and Terrace Café Khum & Kremm, an Italian pastry which opens out onto the infamous antique street of Dar El Bacha itself.

Ouzoud waterfalls
For the more adventurous a three hour drive will take you to the mid Atlas and the majestic Ouzoud waterfalls, the highest in North Africa, with three spectacular tiers. This is also the home of the famous Barbary apes, the naturally tail-less monkeys that you find performing in the main square in Marrakech. It is delightful to see them roaming free in their native habitat.

The Grand Tour
The Grand Tour circuit packs in as much as it is possible to see in a day from Marrakech. You will first drive up the picturesque Ourika valley passing numerous Berber villages before climbing up the ski station at Oukamdem. Your route then descends into the side Fers Valley, down to Asni and up to Imlil. Finally return to Marrakech via Asni and Tahanoute.

Essaouira
Previously known by its Portuguese name Mogador, a fortress still commands the entrance to the harbour and the Medina itself has walled ramparts. Essaouira is usually much cooler than Marrakech and can be windy at times, it is no coincidence that the world wind surf championships are held here.

"Enjoyed a lovely week over Christmas staying at Palais Khum. Very convenient from the airport and yet within easy reach of everywhere you might want to go within the medina. The riad is a peaceful escape from all the hustle and bustle of the souks. Lots of care and attention has been put into the look and feel of Palais Khum and Le Grand Suite in particular is amazing - a palace within a palace. We spent many happy hours on the suite's own private terrace as well as on the riad's main roof terrace. Lots of sun, even in December!"
