Riyad Al Moussika

Riyad Al Moussika is situated in the ancient medina of Marrakech, five minute’s walk from place Jemaa El Fna. The Riyad, was once one of the residences of the former Pasha of Marrakech, Thami El Glaoui, and has been refurbished to a very high standard in the Andalucian style.

One of the gates of Riyad Al Moussika opens on to a garden with old cypress trees soaring to the sky, a huge bougainvillea climbing across the pergolas, a swimming pool, in the centre or, more precisely, an Andalucian basin thirteen meters long, tiled with a mosaic carpet design. Here water falls from a white Carrara marble fountain to the songs of numerous small birds creating an idyllic scenario, in spite of being in the heart of central medina.

A fireplace at Riyad Al Moussika gives the winter evenings a cosy atmosphere, as do the impressive modern paintings, carpets, sofas and armchairs. There is a hi-fi system and an art deco Pleyel grand piano perfectly tuned for the pleasure of the guests.

The Turkish bath or hammam in white marble with a relax room where, on request, a professional masseur can take care of the guests.

There is a unique view of the medina and the Atlas Mountains from the two terraces that are sheltered partially with wooden pergolas and surrounded by large terracotta flower vases. Tables, comfortable armchairs with cushions and teak chaises-long allow guests to request breakfast and candle lit dinner, as well as to sunbathe during the day. On one of the terraces of Riyad Al Moussika there is a pavilion with Moroccan sofas, cushions and lamps should some of the guests prefer a more intimate space.

The resident Chef, Grand Diploma Cordon Bleu, has devoted his life to gastronomy and invites lovers of fine dining to experience his repertoire of Moroccan, Italian and French cuisine.

Day Trips

• Oukaimden Mountains
  Oukaimden is the highest and best equipped winter resort in the High Atlas Mountains. Located a mere 75 km outside of Marrakech, an outing to Oukaimden is a wonderful, relaxing day trip. The spectacular scenery can be enjoyed year-round: during winter months for the snow sports and during summer months to escape the heat of the city.


• Essaouira
  Essaouira, a nice town set 3 hours from Marrakech, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site - a protected city. The ramparts of Essaouria and the 16th century walled city offer astonishing views of the Atlantic Ocean. A day trip to Essaouria - one of the most charming medinas in all of Morocco - will give you ample time to visit the important monuments, the old fish markets, and the seaport. You'll also have a chance to watch silver craftsmen and wood carvers at work.


• Ouzoud Waterfalls
  The waterfalls are a 3 hour car trip from Marrakech and are found in the middle of the Atlas Mountain range. Falling from a height in excess of 100 meters, the falls plunge into an endless series of pools. The gorge of the Ouzoud Waterfalls is home to families of Barbary apes and a variety of native avian species - a bird watcher's delight! Many visitors to Morocco don't expect this kind of "natural experience", so a visit to beautiful Ouzoud comes as a refreshing surprise.


• Ourika Valley
  The Ourika Valley is 30 km from Marrakech and rests between the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. An escape from city life, the Valley draws visitors with a welcoming atmosphere of tiny villages, steep hillsides, waterfalls, and lush green gardens. A must is the visit of the Berber villages on the way.


• Ouarzazate
  This full-day excursion will take you across the High Atlas chain through the Tizi N'Tichka pass - an imposing landscape of the high mountains and traditional Berber villages. The descent along the east side of the chain offers a sudden change in the lush landscape to an arid, desert panorama. In Ouarzazate, visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and Taourirt Kasbah. Ait Ben Haddou is UNESCO protected 11th century site that inspired many movie makers, Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia was filmed there.


• Asni
  Asni a delightful spot to get away from hot and exotic attraction of Marrakech to this cold and rugged Berber country home. A cluster of villages around the river valley Moulay Ibrahim set in a dramatic setting of the High Atlas Mountains with great views of the highest mountain of Morocco and North Africa Djebel Toubkal. Visit the famous kasbah Toubkal where the movie "Seven Years in Tibet" was filmed.
