After arriving at the remarkable Ourika Valley I soon discover that the only way is up. Following a short hike through the Berber communities that inhabit the area I arrived at the Ourika waterfall itself. After speaking with the owner of a cafe just next to the cascade, he informs me that when the time of Ramadan falls under a summer month the icy waters of the fountain become a popular haven not only for tourists but also for the locals of Marrakech. People come, he explains to cool themselves down and re-hydrate their bodies during the long daylight hours without water.
